With Kate Weese and Zesho Susan O’Connell
Sunday, April 26, 2020 -- canceled due to Covid
10 am – 3 pm
San Francisco Zen Center ~ 300 Page Street ~ San Francisco
No previous experience is required; only an open mind and a willingness to explore.
Come play with color and water: drop into the moment and experience the flow of
watercolor painting. In this 5-hour workshop, we will explore watercolor painting and
its myriad possibilities for self-expression. This medium offers a unique and enjoyable
way to practice balancing control and serendipity. Because of its inherent fluidity, the
process of painting with water and color asks us to let go of expectations, allow for
change and appreciate process—in essence, to practice with beginner’s mind.
We’ll be learning about tools, paper, and paint; mixing color; wet-on-dry and wet-on-wet
methods of applying paint; economy of brushstrokes; and creating harmony through
composition. We will also learn how Zen meditation itself, returning us to the ground
of our creative selves, can be a tool.
